Roca firework stand prepares for July 4th celebrations

The Roca location for crazy crackers fireworks stand has been open for over 20 years.
The stand has a variety of fireworks to choose from and often likes to offer new selections every year but not every firework makes the cut.
“We got kids that work for us so we give them a few items every night to take home and try to say yay or nay, and if its a nay them we won’t get it next year because we don’t want to sell anything that isn’t good,” Scott Chenowegh said.
Generally, Scott says the best sellers are the fireworks that are the loudest and brightest but not everyone is drawn to those.
“We sell a lot of novelties because not everyone wants a huge thing that goes up in the air and makes a ton of noise,” Chenowegh said.
Although Lincoln doesn’t allow stands to start selling fireworks until July 3rd, the city of Roca allows stands to open on June 25th and sell for 10 days.
The firework stand has seen a steady flow of customers preparing for the Fourth but Scott expects the crowds to accumulate in the coming days.
“Oh it always picks up, starting July 2nd, it’ll pick up. It’ll be a frenzy of fireworks buying,” Chenowegh said.
Although Scott says his favorite holiday is of course the Fourth of July, he said his colleagues spend a lot of the day cleaning up and packing everything for next year.
“We usually, it’s a full day of picking stuff up so we’re usually pretty tired but we’ll have a couple of pops and light a couple off,” Chenowegh said.
The Roca stand will be open all the way up until the Fourth of July.
