Rumble strips added to Highway 34 near York after deadly crashes
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Rumble strips were installed Tuesday on a deadly stretch of road in York County, and the sheriff is “very, very pleased.”
The strips were added to U.S. Highway 34 west of York, near the junction with U.S. Highway 81.
Last week, two people were killed in crashes near that intersection.

That prompted Sheriff Paul Vrbka to seek some changes, including rumble strips.
“I’m not sure who made that happen so quickly but I’m just so happy it happened,” he said Wednesday in a press release. “The Nebraska Department of Transportation responded immediately to the situation and at least one step has been taken.”
Vrbka plans to meet with State Sen. Jana Hughes this week to discuss what else can be done to reduce crashes at the junction.
