LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Airport officially launched its LNK Runway 18/36 Project on Monday.

According to officials, the 12,901-foot runway is getting a full rebuild to improve safety, reliability and long-term operations.

Existing pavement dating back to the 1950s is also being replaced.

The project is expected to take two years, with a phased approach that allows the airport to continue serving passengers, airlines, the military and general aviation during construction.

Officials said the runway will remain at its current length to meet the needs of the Nebraska National Guard.

“This is a big milestone, and a big runway – built to support Lincoln’s future for decades to come,” the airport said in a Facebook post.
