Rural Nebraska fire department warns ice fishers of ‘rapidly deteriorating’ conditions
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two ice fishers had a close call over the weekend on a lake in northeast Nebraska.
Two fishermen were setting up their gear on Willow Lake when the ice broke on them, Pierce Fire and Rescue said Sunday.
The anglers had to abandon a UTV, their gear and a shack. Pierce Fire’s water rescue team responded to the scene.
Nobody was seriously injured.
Pierce Fire and Rescue said fishers should be wary of “rapidly deteriorating” ice conditions.
“It is important to note that these were very experienced fishermen who have several decades of experience on the ice,” officials said in a Facebook post. “They know the conditions and how to read conditions. This incident happened very quickly.”
