Salvation Army drive provides toys for thousands in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Thousands of people are expected to receive gifts through the Salvation Army of Lincoln’s toy drive.
Families came to the organization’s location at 27th and Potter streets on Tuesday to pick up presents.
The toys, which were purchased by shoppers at local stores, were for kids of all ages.
There were also books and clothes, and each family received a holiday meal basket.
Capt. Kelsie Moreno said the toy drive helps relieve parents’ stress during hard financial times.
“Families are seeing their dollars not stretching as far as they used to,” she said. “Cost of basic, everyday needs have risen, and it’s really been difficult for a lot of families to make ends meet.”
Moreno said 3,600 people are scheduled to receive gifts.
She praised the Lincoln community, saying the organization doesn’t see the same outpouring of support in other cities she has worked.
The toy distribution will continue Wednesday.
