Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office investigating string of vehicle thefts
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple vehicle thefts on Thursday involving two thieves.
Deputies went to a neighborhood near Highway 50 and Platteview Road, just southwest of Omaha.
The victim said he heard his Ford F-250 start in the driveway and confronted a male in the driver’s seat.
The sheriff’s office said the thief pointed a gun at the victim, who went back into his house.
The thief then exited the pickup and got into a white Ford Explorer before driving away.
A second white Ford Explorer followed the first one from the scene.
Deputies tried to pull over the first Ford Explorer near the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Malls, but the driver fled.
During the investigation, deputies learned the second Ford Explorer was stolen from a nearby house on Chestnut Street.
Deputies found the first Ford Explorer abandoned with front-end damage on Highway 6 near 220th Street.
Officials said this Explorer was also stolen from a house in northern Springfield.
The second Ford Explorer has yet to be found.
Video footage from inside the first Ford Explorer shows two suspects:
- Suspect 1 – white male wearing a black face mask and green sweatshirt, seated in the passenger seat
- Suspect 2 – Black male wearing a black face mask and white sweatshirt, seated in the driver’s seat. The driver later removes the face mask and sweatshirt while driving
Both of the thieves were seen with handguns.
