Sasse does not hold back at Kavanaugh hearing

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse filled his 10 minute opening statement with criticism of the comments and demonstrations about Kavanaugh.

He says these hearings have become an overblown, politicized circus and people need to remember how our 3 branches of government work.

"The question is not what Brett Kavanaugh thought on an issue 11 years ago.. The question is.. Does he have the temperament and the character to take his policy views and political preferences and put them in a box called irrelevant, and set it aside everyday when he puts on his black robe.. The question is does he have the character and temperament to do that.. If you don’t think he does, vote no.. If you think he does then stop the charades," said Sasse.

One major issue that came about was abortion.

"I understand the importance that people attach to Roe v. Wade decision, to the Planned Parenthood v. Casey decision, I don’t live in a bubble, I understand, I live in the real world," said supreme court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

Sasse argues that this is not a conversation on partisanship, but a question of whether Kavanaugh can do his job effectively as a supreme court justice.

"it seems to me that what he actually dislikes are legislators that are too lazy to do their actual jobs. It seems to me that if you read his 300 plus opinions, what his opinions reveal to me is the dissatisfaction. I think he would argue a constitutionally compelled dissatisfaction with power hunger executive branch bureaucrats doing our job when we fail to do it," said Sasse.

Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing will last two more days. A date for a confirmation vote has not yet been set.
