Saturday morning fire displaces a Lincoln family

Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire this morning at 11:27 A.M. near 66th and Orchard street.

When they arrived they discovered the backside of the home was on fire.

Both parents were out of the house when it started.

"I was at work and my daughters called me and I ignored the first call because I was at work and then my other daughter called so I knew something was wrong and she just said mom the house is on fire and was balling and I left work, came home and this is what I was greeted with," said Nicolle Murry, one of the home renters.

Officials say fire was coming out of two sides of the structure in the upstairs area.

"It appears that it was in the backside, maybe a bedroom area. There was actually fire issuing from two windows on the backside of the structure," said Fire Captain Scott Wiebe.

After checking to see if everyone made it out okay, the fire fighters focused on suppressing the flames.

The cause of the fire is still uncertain, but the children who were home at the time say they heard something.

"I think it was old wiring but it is hard to say. My girls thought they heard a pop and then they smelled the smoke, saw the fire, and ran out," said Murry.

Officials estimate the damage to the home is moderate to severe. The home has been ruled as a total loss and the family will be displaced for an undetermined amount of time.

"They said the fire started in my son’s room. Thank god he wasn’t here he is with his Dad. Everybody’s okay. The dogs got out, my kids got out. We’re okay," said Murry.
