Scam alert: man posing as officer over the phone

Lincoln Police are warning you about a man posing as an officer in a phone scam.
Officer Angela Sands said they’ve gotten five reports of the man telling victims he is a Lincoln Police officer and if they don’t give him money, they will go to jail.
Two people have paid him in gift cards. The loss is more than $1,000, Sands said.
The Lincoln Police Department will never call asking for money, or threaten that you’ll go to jail if you don’t pay, she said.
If you get a call like this, ask the caller for their name and badge number and verify their identity with Lincoln Police dispatch at 402-441-6000.
