Scammer tried stealing $15,000 from 70-year-old Lancaster County man

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A scammer tried stealing $15,000 in a fraud scheme last month — but a Lancaster County man didn’t hand over the cash.
On March 9, a 70-year-old man’s laptop malfunctioned, and he was told to call the number on the screen, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.
The scammer posed as a computer technician and asked the man to withdraw $15,000 from his bank account.
The man was then told to deposit the funds into a bitcoin machine at a liquor store, Houchin said.
After arriving at the business, the man decided to not deposit the money.
“We are happy that he changed his mind,” Houchin said.
