Scattered storms Friday; clearing out for Nebraska football at all levels

Rain sits off to the west early Friday morning, with showers and thunderstorms possible later in the morning and especially by the afternoon. This rain is riding along a weak cold front expected to just bring us some light rain and cooler temperatures.

Winds don’t look to pick up too much behind the front, and smoke shouldn’t be a problem after this one, either.

Models scatter storms across southeast Nebraska by Friday afternoon. Chances start first along I-80, then continue to move south and east along the front as it advances through the state. Besides rain off and on, expect a mostly cloudy day.

Temperatures should struggle into the low to upper 70s across the area, with the cold front and cloud cover keeping us cool. Winds will shift to be out of the northwest for the remainder of the day. We’ll only see these temperatures in the 70s for about a day before warming back into the 80s this weekend.

Light showers will still be tapering off around the start of high school football games tonight, but it shouldn’t be a problem for long if at all. Channel 8’s Game of the Week will feature Norris at Waverly with kickoff at 7 p.m. We’ll see clearing behind the front and into late Friday night.

High School Football Game Of The Week

Another football forecast you may be calling for is the first Husker home game this Saturday. It should be a great one, weather-wise! Highs will be back in the low 80s, but falling to around 77° by kickoff. We’ll be cooler for the second half of the game, too. May be wise to bring an extra layer to add for the end of the game.

Many are anticipating the start of the AppleJack Festival in Nebraska City, too! That kicks off on Friday, with the best weather to come this weekend. Other pumpkin patches are opening this weekend as well, and conditions look great for pumpkin pickin’ and apple eatin’!

We’ll see winds kick up again out of the south early next week, causing another warmup into the mid-80s, if not a bit warmer. Then leading into the end of the week, a more active pattern should bring more rain to the area heading into the first part of fall. Fall starts next Saturday, September 23rd!
