Scattered storms possible by Friday
We haven’t seen a whole lot of rain through the month of September, coming up on the halfway point. Lincoln has recorded exactly a quarter of an inch so far, still over an inch below normal for this point in the month.
That being said, drought conditions have persisted. The map below shows the current drought monitor with each city’s deficit for the year. Many spots are 6-9″ below average, needing any rain we can get.
That being said, there’s some rain possible for a lot of us for Friday. It doesn’t look like much will come as a line develops along a front moving in from the northwest later on Thursday. These showers and thunderstorms will be scattered, producing the most rain with peak rainfall likely happening during the afternoon Friday. These storms should not be severe as they move through the state.
There are small chances to see rain Friday morning, but the best shot comes with the timing of the front as it closes in with the heating of the day. These showers should dissipate heading into Friday night and early Saturday.
Above is the timing for Lincoln. Now, if you’re planning on joining AppleJack festivities in Nebraska City, rain could be delayed a bit longer than what Lincoln will see as the cold front eventually moves east from Lincoln. Friday will be a day to be on guard for those chances, with the best weather coming in time for the weekend.
We’ll clear out throughout Saturday, with mostly sunny skies by kickoff for the first Husker home game. Temperatures should be in the upper 70s, falling to the lower 60s by the end of the game. Couldn’t ask for a better first game in Memorial Stadium.
Overall, we’re looking at a top tier weekend that will be dry after scattered storms Friday. Next chance for rain will come by the middle of next week.
