Sears at Gateway Mall one of 80 stores closing nationwide

The Sears store at Gateway Mall in Lincoln is one of 80 locations closing across the country, the company said.
The company released a list of the closing Sears and Kmart locations online, saying:
“As part of Sears Holdings’ processes to accelerate its strategic transformation and facilitate its financial
restructuring, on December 27, 2018, the company informed associates at 80 stores that we will be closing
these Sears and Kmart stores in late March 2019. Liquidation sales at these stores are expected to begin in
two weeks. The accompanying Sears Auto Center at these Sears stores will also be closing. This is in addition
to the previously announced closure of 40 unprofitable stores expected to be completed in February 2019.
Customers can use the store locator function on our web sites to find the location of their nearest Kmart and
Sears stores.”
The company filed for bankruptcy in October and set Friday as the deadline for potential buyers to bid for its assets, including its 500 Sears and Kmart stores and the Kenmore appliance brand.
A buyer would allow the stores to remain open, but so far, there’s only one public bidder.
A hedge fund controlled by Sears chairman Eddie Lampert is offering $4.6 billion.
Lampert has to make his bid official by the end of the day. If he doesn’t and Sears receives no other bids, the company could extend the deadline or liquidate its assets.
