Seasonable temperatures until heat returns Sunday, Monday

Quiet, dry weather will be in the forecast for Friday and the weekend. Gradually warming, we’ll still be around the lower 90s by the afternoon. That comes after a nice morning where temperatures cooled for most into the lower 60s.

It’s not expected to be overly humid either as dew point temperatures hang in the middle 60s.

Friday Forecast

There is a Marginal risk that clips far southwest Nebraska and the Panhandle for a few scattered storms developing by Friday evening. A couple may be borderline severe, but those storms dive southeast. North Platte and McCook have a chance to see some rain out of this tonight, but a majority of the state will be dry with some added cloud cover by Saturday morning.

Spc Fri

There are many outdoor activities in Lincoln over the weekend including the Lancaster County Super Fair and the Big Red Preview open practice that fans can attend in Memorial Stadium Saturday evening. Summer weather will be rather nice for these events!

Count on temperatures warming still, yet hottest by Sunday and Monday with temperatures in the upper 90s nearing triple-digits.

Forecast Next Two Days

As for the practice under the lights, it’ll still be warm with a light breeze out of the southwest to start. By the end, temperatures will drop toward the lower 80s and upper 70s. For most, goosebumps will come not from cold weather but a chill as the football season draws near.

Home Evening 3 Panel

The problem with this rather seasonable forecast is that we are starting to need rain. Yet there are little to no precipitation chances over the next five days. Those chances do start to look better by the end of next week, though.

Precip Chances

With the latest drought monitor released this Thursday, we’re starting to see more areas on the verge of returning back to being in drought. Those along the Kansas border are “abnormally dry” for now, but if no rain comes soon, we could see this area expand – if not get worse.

Drought Monitor 8 1

Western Nebraska continues to face harshening conditions as a large area of severe drought has now developed.
