Seats filling fast for Jersey Boys performances at Lied Center
The Tony-winning show is back at the Lied for four performances.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Even if you haven’t seen it, Jersey Boys is one of those shows you’ve almost certainly heard of, and it makes a return to the Lied Center for Performing Arts on March 25.
In its 18 years, the show has racked up quite a few awards and honors. What’s the appeal? It may lie in that true story of four kids who made it big.
“It’s an amazing story of the behind-the-scenes of what happened with this band. It’s almost a Behind the Music“, says Devon Goffman, who plays Tommy DeVito. “I think it was the first time on Broadway that they really succeeded in creating a Behind the Music story, a real story.”
For Goffman, a big part of the thrill is spending time as a modern-day Four Seasons, as the show tours around the country performing rock music at venues similar to those the original boys played. The audience plays a big part in that thrill, too.
“The audience is electric in this show”, Goffman says. “I’ve never felt anything like the end of “Walk Like a Man” every night. The audience goes nuts like they’re right there in 1961.”
That’s got to be down to the timeless appeal of the music of the Four Seasons, as Goffman explains how “these guys were able to transcend generations musically”.
Take that music, add in the dancing, the amazing true-life story, and you’ve got a winner.
