Second annual Star City Pride Parade in Lincoln

"Community in Unity" is this year's theme

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- “Community in Unity,” that’s the theme for this year’s pride festivities put on by the Star City Pride organization.

“Lincoln really needed a Pride parade, and there were some people in the community that really stepped up to make sure that it happened,” said Dan Huntley, President of Star City Pride.

The month of June celebrates pride, and recognizes and celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community.

“I think that this day just means a lot of different types of diversity coming together and celebrating something beautiful, which is just being authentically yourself,” said Brennan Splichal, celebrating pride.

“It’s just a time to celebrate us, without any judgement or discrimination,” said Gracie Chambers, celebrating pride.

The parade brought several communities together, from in and around Lincoln.

“We look at this as an opportunity to spread light and love.  I think it’s hopeful, I think it’s happy.  It’s something that provides an environment for folks to see other people like them,” said Huntley.

The festivities continued throughout the night on Saturday, going until midnight.

“It’s going to be hot, but we’ve got shade, we’ve got water and we’ve got a great team and you know, we’re really hoping a lot of people get to come out and experience what Pride is all about,” said Huntley.
