Second trial set for former Lancaster County sergeant accused of not serving warrants
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A former high-ranking officer in the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is set to go on trial again.
Prosecutors will retry former Sgt. Ryan Schmuecker on two charges of failing to serve a misdemeanor warrant, according to a Friday court filing.
Jurors were unable to reach a verdict in the case earlier this month, resulting in a mistrial.

In February, Schmuecker came across two people who had arrest warrants for not paying fines, the sheriff’s office said.
But he told them to pay their fines and let them go, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office fired Schmuecker in May, but he is suing to get his job back.
That case is being argued in Lancaster County District Court.
Judge Jo Petersen scheduled Schmuecker’s criminal trial for Feb. 27.
