Security guard shot and killed man outside of downtown Lincoln bar, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department provided more details Monday on a deadly shooting over the weekend at a downtown bar.

Around 3 a.m., Sunday, first responders were sent to the Royal Hookah Bar and Lounge near 16th and O streets, where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man, 32-year-old Gregory Little from Lincoln, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille said Little and another man argued with several other patrons over cutting in line.

The bar’s security team intervened, and someone took a baton from one of the guards, according to the preliminary investigation.

Investigators are unsure who took the baton.

The “disagreement” continued outside the bar, and the security team tried getting the baton back, Stille said.

A 24-year-old security guard — who has not been identified — shot Little, according to Stille.  There were four shots fired.

Stille thinks someone else may have been injured.

As of Monday morning, no charges have been filed in the shooting.

Investigators are still looking for witnesses of the shooting.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

The death is Lincoln’s first homicide of 2024. There were eight in 2023, compared with 11 in 2022.
