Road rage in Lincoln: Semi driver accused of pointing gun at man and 1-year-old

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A semi driver was arrested Wednesday after he pulled out a gun during a road rage incident in south Lincoln, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says.

Around 11 a.m., a 33-year-old Lincoln man cut off a semitrailer hauling cattle near Highway 77 and Saltillo Road, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

The sheriff’s office said the semi driver, 30-year-old Nathan Dorries, then pulled out a teal handgun and aimed it at the man and his 1-year-old daughter.

That caused the man to “fear for his life,” Houchin said.

The victim called 911, and deputies later pulled over Dorries near Highway 77 and West O Street.  Inside the semi, deputies found the handgun behind the driver’s seat.

Dorries was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and failure to disclose a firearm.

Houchin said road rage incidents seem to be “occurring more and more.”

“It is not worth risking your life over an incident like this,” he said.

One Lincolnite at a gas station near Saltillo Road said he deals with road rage often and tries to not take things too seriously.

“It’s mind-blowing, you know,” he said. “Especially with a toddler in the car and, you know, a single parent with a toddler. I don’t think that’s all right.”

Houchin said if drivers come across a similar road rage incident, they should stand down.

“I know people get upset and it escalates,” he said. “These days, you don’t know what an individual is going to be willing to do. Especially if you have a child in the car with you, it’s better to back off. Call us. We’ll come handle the situation.”
