Semi flips onto side in east Lincoln; driver calls it trucker’s worst nightmare
Second crash happened at same intersection during cleanup
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A semi rolled onto its side Wednesday afternoon, causing some traffic delays in east Lincoln.
The crash happened around 4:10 p.m. east of the intersection of 70th and O Streets.
Walter Monnar, the driver, said he was turning left onto O Street when he saw his trailer start to tip to the right.
“I tried to straighten the trailer, but the weight took me down,” Monnar said. “It scared me because in the moment I tried to fix it, to do whatever, to make sure this didn’t happen.”
Luckily, he was not injured, but he said it was a trucker’s worst nightmare.
Tow trucks had to empty the semi of its cargo before it could be pulled upright.
While they were doing this, a second crash happened around 5:50 p.m., less than 50 yards from the overturned semi.
Police said there were only minor injuries in that crash.
Eastbound O Street was shut down for a time.
