LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska introduced a bill on Tuesday requiring the use of female crash test dummies.

The She DRIVES Act also requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to use a more technologically advanced male dummy.

Sens. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) are co-sponsoring the legislation.

“Outdated crash testing standards make women 17 percent more likely to be killed in auto crashes than men, but that doesn’t have to be the case,” Fischer, a Republican, said in a press release. “By updating crash test dummy standards, our bill will save thousands of lives and prevent thousands more serious injuries each year.”

She said the bill would save an estimated 1,300 lives.
