Sen. Ricketts visits Nebraskans serving in Lithuania ahead of NATO summit

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — As the ranking member of a Senate subcommittee, Sen. Pete Ricketts is representing the U.S. and Nebraska on a global scale.

He, along with five other senators, are attending the NATO summit in Lithuania.

On Monday, the senators took a detour to Camp Herkus, an army base near the Belarus border.

Ricketts said this base is critical in deterring Russian aggression against NATO allies.

“Touring Camp Herkus gave me the utmost confidence that the U.S. is doing our part to combat the growing threats the NATO alliance is facing,” Ricketts said in a statement.

Nebraskans serving at the camp had lunch with the senator.

At the summit, Ricketts wants to encourage NATO leaders to “pay their share,” according to a press release from his office.

Another priority for the senator is banding together against the growing threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party.
