Senate narrowly advances Kavanaugh nomination, final vote expected to happen Saturday

The U.S. Senate advanced embattled Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court in a narrow vote Friday morning. 

Senators voted 51-49 to advance the nomination to a final vote, which is expected to occur Saturday.

Nebraska Senators Ben Sasse and Deb Fischer both voted ‘yes’ to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination. 

Republican Senators Jeff Flake and Susan Collins also voted in favor, along with Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, who had been undecided, while Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski voted no. 

All four were considered to be crucial voters, likely to decide whether Kavanaugh’s nomination would continue.
