One in critical condition after crash on Highway 6 east of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman was seriously injured Monday in a crash with a semitrailer east of Lincoln.

The crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on Highway 6 near 98th Street.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said a Hyundai was stopped at the intersection.  A Toyota Corolla was right behind the Hyundai.

An eastbound semi failed to stop and crashed into the Toyota, causing a “domino effect,” Houchin said.

The semi, which was hauling crushed cars, tipped over.

The driver of the Toyota, a 46-year-old Lincoln woman, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The semi driver was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Nobody else was seriously injured.

“It was one of the most horrific crashes I’ve seen in some time,” Houchin said.

No citations have been issued, and the crash is still under investigation.

Highway 6 was shut down for several hours as authorities investigated the crash.
