Several cited in deadly motorcycle crash on Highway 6 near Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Four people have been cited in a September crash on Highway 6 that killed a 55-year-old Lincoln man.

On Friday, Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said three teens were ticketed for racing on the highway.

One of the teen’s dads was also cited for having no proof of insurance.

No one is being charged with motor vehicle homicide, Houchin said.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. on Sept. 21 just west of the Interstate 80 interchange.

A 16-year-old boy was getting ready to race an 18-year-old boy on Highway 6.  Both were driving slowly, the sheriff’s office said.

A 17-year-old girl was behind the boys.  Her rear taillights “had insufficient illumination,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Three motorcyclists were heading west at the posted speed and caught up to the slowed vehicles.

Bradley Krutz and another motorcyclist took “evasive action” to avoid them, lost control and crashed, the sheriff’s office said.

Krutz was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other motorcyclist was hospitalized.  The third biker avoided the crash.

Houchin said Krutz was driving under the influence and not wearing a proper helmet.
