Several rural crews battle large hay fire in northern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several hay bales were destroyed in a fire over the weekend at a property in northern Nebraska.

Around 6 p.m. Friday, the Spencer Volunteer Fire Department was sent to a large hay fire north of the town, which is 30 miles north of O’Neill.

Due to hot and windy conditions, several nearby rural fire departments were called to help put out the flames.

In total, about 20 firetrucks and a water trailer responded to the scene, officials said.

Crews were able to contain the fire by noon Saturday.  But as of Monday, officials said the hay bales were still smoldering.

It is unknown how much hay was lost.
