Severe potential across eastern Nebraska by Monday afternoon; main threat of destructive hail, tornadoes

Monday starts out very warm, sticky-humid and windy. Cloud cover and spotty drizzle will gradually clear toward the afternoon and set the stage for the possibility of severe weather across eastern Nebraska.

Jess Day Planner Today Vertical

A Slight (Level 2 of 5) to Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk of severe weather highlights eastern Nebraska Monday, increasing in the risk of severe weather as you go east. The window for quick-developing, strong to severe storms *if* they form will be about 2PM-6PM Monday afternoon and evening.

Here’s the latest timing from Stormcast as of Monday morning. While not a guarantee, any storms after about 2 p.m. Monday will threaten severe weather in eastern Nebraska, moving northeast if they form.

Many models this morning still showed no storms forming in eastern Nebraska with a lack of some ingredients, and while that scenario is certainly possible as well, we’ll be monitoring for this conditional threat of severe weather through the day.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The NOAA weather radios will be down for Monday’s potential severe weather event. This is part of a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) through Wednesday, April 30.

The following transmitters will be affected:

  • KIH-61 Omaha, NE
  • WXM-20 Lincoln, NE
  • WXL-77 Carrol, NE
  • KWN-41 Shubert, NE
  • KZZ-69 Beatrice, NE
