Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10:00am Saturday
As the thunderstorm activity lingers across eastern Nebraska early Saturday morning, the Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been updated accordingly. Counties such as; Burt, Cuming, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders, Thurston and Washington have been included in the Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10:00am. The watch is likely to be cancelled before midday Saturday as the storm activity continues to weaken while moving east.
Overnight Friday into Saturday morning the main threats include damaging wind speeds, large hail, locally heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms for eastern parts of the state. The storm intensity will start to lighten up heading into the mid morning hours.
The Severe Weather Risk has also been updated for Saturday, with much of the eastern half of state in a Marginal (level 1/5) Risk. The Slight Risk (level 2/5) for Severe Weather has moved east into Iowa.
All previous Tornado Watches have since expired. The Storm Alert Team will continue monitoring the storm system as it passes through.
Various models are forecasting the overnight storm activity to be off to our east by the afternoon and evening on Saturday. A few isolated showers are possible for northern Nebraska in the evening, the rest of the state will likely be partly sunny. Temperatures stay warm on Saturday, with mid to lower 90s. Following a cold front, Sunday cools down and we will be breezy for the remainder of our weekend.
