Severe weather threat across southeast Nebraska late morning into evening hours Wednesday
We’re setting up for a stormy day in eastern Nebraska, with some light rain and occasional lightning already early Wednesday morning.
More storms will develop later in the morning and increase in coverage by the afternoon. Darker reds and pinks indicate potential for heavy rain, some gusty winds and hail through the evening hours across southeast Nebraska.
By late Wednesday morning, the threat for severe weather will start to increase. Especially in extreme southeast Nebraska in the Enhanced (orange) risk area, all severe hazards will be possible including the potential for strong tornadoes.
Lincoln and Omaha are within the Marginal (Level 1) risk, meaning that stronger storms will try to first develop in this area, acting as a sort of launch pad since storms will intensify farther east and south throughout the day.
The tornado risk is quite notable for areas like Rulo, Pawnee City and Falls City in extreme southeast Nebraska. The area in yellow with black hash marks means that’s where there is potential for EF-2 or stronger tornadoes.
Hail mainly up to 1″ in diameter is possible for those especially shaded in yellow below.
Damaging winds will be more likely as these storms form more of a line later in the afternoon and evening as they move on into Kansas and Missouri. Embedded spin-up tornadoes will be possible within that line as well tonight.
Most of us could just use some beneficial rain. And rainfall projections look good for many of us!
We’ll then be clearing out and cool for Halloween and all of the festivities Thursday.
