Severe weather threat ending; Turning colder Wednesday
The severe weather threat is quickly diminishing in the Channel 8 viewing area as of 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. I suspect the Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Gage, Lancaster, and Seward counties will be canceled prior to its original expiration time of 11 p.m. Tuesday.
A cold front will pass through southeast Nebraska Tuesday night. Behind the cold front, winds will shift out of the northwest and blow with “gusto”. Winds gusts could reach 40 to 45 mph overnight. Be careful if you are leaving your garbage cans out!
Temperatures will also be dropping, reaching the 30°s by Wednesday morning.
Don’t expect much of a warm-up through the day. Highs will only be in the upper 30°s to middle 40°s. Factor in the wind and wind chills will be stuck in the 20°s for much of the day. In other words, don’t forget to take your coat!
There will be a slight chance for scattered showers through the day but I think the best chance will be Wednesday evening. As cold air works down through the atmosphere, some of the rain could mix with snow Wednesday evening, and becoming mainly snow flakes by early Thursday morning.
