Severe Weather Threat: Tonight and Monday Evening
A SLIGHT Risk for severe weather is in place for central Nebraska through tonight, with a MARGINAL Risk for the surrounding areas. Storms are expected to develop during the evening hours and move east through the overnight. Threats include large hail, damaging winds of 60+ mph, and a few tornadoes possible. Stay weather-aware through tonight, as conditions may change quickly.
A few tornadoes possible through tonight.
Hail up to 2″+ in diameter or greater will be possible with these storms. The hatched marks mean a greater chance of seeing large hail up to tennis balls. Large hail, straight line winds and a few tornadoes are a concern through tonight.
Winds up to 70+ mph will be likely as these storms move east.
Tonight, temperatures in the low 60s. This will help with storm chances Monday afternoon and evening.
Monday, a BIG WARM UP! Temperatures in the low to mid 80s, with a south wind 20-25 mph.
A sharp cutoff in moisture Monday. This is why there is still uncertainty on storm timing and placement. The further east, the more moisture for storms.
Monday afternoon and evening, a SLIGHT Risk for severe weather covers most of eastern Nebraska, with a small area of ENHANCED Risk east of Lincoln and Omaha. Be prepared for the potential of strong storms as they develop and track through the region Monday evening. There is still some uncertainty with storm timing and placement.
Tornado potential is more into Iowa. Eastern Nebraska could see a brief tornado, especially further northeast.
Large hail looks to be the main concern on Monday. Golf ball – softball size hail will be possible, especially in the hatched marks.
Winds up to 75+ mph will be possible as well.
Monday afternoon and evening, storms look to initiate east of Lincoln into western Iowa. There is still some uncertainty with timing and placement, due to the sharp moisture cutoff. Large hail looks to be the main concern with a few tornadoes possible especially further northeast. Temperatures staying warm in the 70s and 80s, with storm chances starting again next weekend.
