Seward Airport to hold benefit for boy with cancer

Saturday in Seward, there will be a special fundraiser for a special boy.

It’s for 4–year–old Colton Whisler, who is fighting cancer.

And tomorrow, friends are coming together for them.

Colton and his family touched down at Duncan Aviation from St. Jude in Memphis Friday afternoon.

His family said he was first diagnosed with an ear infection, but later got word that it’s cancer.

His family said he will be going through chemo and radiation treatment for the next 18 months.

They said they were stunned by the news, but they appreciate all the support they’re getting.

“We went expecting tubes to be put in his ears,” said Colton’s mother, Stephanie.  “So to say it was mind blowing to go from thinking you’re getting tubes to finding out that your 4–year–old has cancer was devastating.”

“The aviation, the army and the surrounding communities are so helpful, so loving and supporting, even for someone that they don’t even know,” said his father, Derek.  “Just to be able to come together at a moment’s notice and throw an event like this.”

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Seward Airport.

Activities will include a silent auction, a bake sale, craft sales and plane and helicopter rides.  Proceeds go to Colton and his family.
