Seward football ready to make an impact in Class B

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Seward Blue Jays enter the 2023 season looking to build off of its 6-4 season in 2022 which included a trip to the playoffs.

The Blue Jays return a younger group this season, but head coach Jamie Opfer is confident in his team.

“We’ve got some kids that have invested in the process,” Opfer said. “I’m so proud of this group and excited about what the future holds for Seward high school football.”

Opfer welcomes back some solid talent from last season and said he is impressed with the leadership from his senior class.

“They’re becoming more vocal because we expect our seniors to lead and make sure that the younger classmen know what to do and how to do it,” Opfer said.

Josh Ringler, senior offensive tackle, is part of a younger offensive line this season and has been working on being that vocal leader coach Opfer is looking for.

“I used to not really be vocal at all, but I got to be a lot more vocal now and let people know what’s going on,” Ringler said.

Cole Luebbe, returning tight end, will look to make his impact felt in his senior year at Seward.

Lubbe said he has been focused on improving his route running and quickness throughout the summer.

“My routes have gotten a little better,” Lubbe said. “I’ve got quicker feet, gotten a lot faster, so I can jump higher.”

Luebbe has also been impressed with the younger group coming in.

“They’re looking pretty good,” Lubbe said. “There’s some stuff that they’re kind of struggling with, like pad level, getting their feet in the ground quicker, but otherwise they’re improving a lot.”

Seward begins the season on August 25th at home against Norris.
