Seward restaurant relies on deliveries during delays in reopening
SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – The opening of a beloved Seward restaurant in a new location has been repeatedly delayed.
Owners of Sixth Street Cafe, formerly known as Cafe on the Corner, hoped to open the new building earlier this year.
But they have faced numerous hurdles in remodeling the space. Now they are waiting on the installation of a kitchen hood.
“We’re ready, we’re staffed,” co-owner Chelsey Kosmicki said. “Unfortunately, our staff is just sitting on standby.”
The restaurant said it is difficult to stay connected with the Seward community.
“It almost feels like COVID to us honestly ’cause we don’t see each other as much, we don’t see our regulars, which really has been a struggle for us,” Kosmicki said.
The restaurant has found a creative way to stay afloat while staying in touch with the community.
Last week, it began offering delivery in Seward.
“We’re still paying utilities and mortgages and things like that,” co-owner Audra Jensen said. “And so having some sort of income has kind of been a lifesaver.”
Sixth Street Cafe is hoping to have its doors open next month.
