Seward survives first round of playoffs in close game against Lincoln Pius X

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – Seward snuck out of trouble against Lincoln Pius X on Friday night, winning 21-20.

On paper, this game didn’t look like it would be as close as it was.

Seward strolled in with zero losses facing a 4-5 Pius X team.

The first quarter was scoreless, but that didn’t last long, with both teams scoring minutes into the second quarter.

Seward launched a 49-yard bomb to Jack Vyhnalek, and Pius X responded less than four minutes later with its own bomb to Alex Weber.

Ed Knott picked off Pius X quarterback and returned it all the way to the house to give Seward a 14-7 lead.

But Pius X scored again right before the half with a halfback dive from Joseph Andreasen at the 1-yard line.

Eventually, after many punts and many penalties, Seward took home the first-round victory.

Next week, the Bluejays will play Gretna East.
