Sex offender sentenced for failing to register

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – According to the acting United States Attorney Jan Sharp, Yuri B. Ramirez, age 33, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced today in Lincoln by United States District Judge John M. Gerrard for failing to register as a sex offender.

Ramirez was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison, directly followed by 5 years of supervised release with special conditions. There is no parole in the federal system.

Ramirez was convicted of third-degree sexual assault involving two 13-year-old minors on July 12th, 2005 in the District Court for Woodbury County, Iowa.

Following his conviction, Ramirez was required to register as a sex offender in Iowa for life and was required to register until at least 2034 in Nebraska.  Ramirez moved from Iowa to Nebraska around September of 2020, he remained here as a resident.  Ramirez did not register in Nebraska after moving.

The Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act requires that a convicted sex offender registers in each jurisdiction where the offender resides, where they are employed, or where the offender is a student, and that the sex offender must maintain current on their registrations.

This case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service.
