Shark bite costs fishermen a $3.5 million prize
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fishing crew caught a massive fish but lost out on the grand prize after a shark took a bite out of their catch.
The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in North Carolina is one of the largest and oldest fishing competitions in the country.
Fishing crews compete to catch the biggest marlin and win a cash prize. This year’s prize was $3.5 million.
The crew of the Sensation caught a 619-pound marlin and were set to win until the judges took a closer look and found a shark bite.
According to the International Game Fish Association rules, if a fish is injured, it’s easier to catch and results in a disqualification from the tournament.
Now the crew from the Sensation is hiring an attorney to fight the disqualification.
