Shelter opens overnight for Nebraska families fleeing massive fire
So far there are no reported injuries and officials believe the flames are unlikely to spread much further
OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) — The Omaha Fire Department opened a shelter overnight after recommending that people living near a large fire evacuate.
This all began just south of downtown around 7 p.m. Monday.
Thick smoke could be seen all across the city coming from the Nox Crete factory at 20th and Center.
Crews responding to the blaze reported hearing explosions and were told propane was being stored inside.
Just after 10:30 p.m. the Omaha Fire Department sent out a tweet telling evacuees they could head to the Columbus Community Center for shelter.
Officials also said Red Cross volunteers were coming to provide further assistance.
