SHERIFF: 75-year-old man runs over explosive with lawnmower
Authorities say a man was injured after running over an explosive device with a lawnmower.
Authorities say a man suffered only minor injuries after running over an explosive device with a lawnmower.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded just before noon Monday to the Beatrice Gun Club on reports of a workplace accident.
GCSO says an employee was mowing with a riding lawn mower when he struck an abandoned binary target which exploded and lifted the front end of the mower into a “violent jolt.” The mower continued for approximately 10 feet before coming to a rest.
GCSO says a small crater was found where the device detonated. Investigators are unsure how long the device had been on the ground.
The employee – identified only as a 75-year-old man – decided to drive himself home, rather than go to the hospital, authorities said. Investigators went to the man’s Beatrice home where he said he was sore but otherwise uninjured.
