Sheriff’s deputy, child among latest Nebraska flu deaths

A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy has died from flu complications. 

Deputy David Wintle arrived at an Omaha hospital with breathing problems Thursday morning and died a short time later, the agency said in a news release. 

He was 51 years old. 

Wintle was a 29-year veteran of the department, and spent the last 13 years with his K9 partner, Chet. 

He is survived by a wife and four children. 

Officials also report a child has died from complications of the flu. 

Nebraska is one of several states experiencing high levels of flu activity, according to the latest data from the CDC.
