Sheriff’s office releases video of shootout with Omaha man who killed his wife
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Authorities in the Omaha area gave an update Thursday on the death of a teacher and her husband.
The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage of the agency’s response and confirmed that deputies fatally shot the husband.
About 3 a.m. on Oct. 28, deputies responded to a home near 144th Street and Giles Road.
The sheriff’s office said a man inside the home, Rory Geiger, had shot his wife, Rebecca Geiger.
When deputies arrived, Rory Geiger started shooting at them from the house.
One of the deputies’ bodycams captured Geiger’s first shot shattering the home’s window.
Several more gunshots are heard on the video as one deputy yells, “Take a shot! If you guys got a shot, take it!”
Geiger and deputies exchanged gunfire continued until one of the shots hit Geiger.
When deputies entered the home, they found both Rebecca and Rory Geiger dead.
Rebecca Geiger was a special services teacher at Westside High School.
“Mrs. Geiger was an exceptional educator, mentor and good friend to her colleagues,” Westside Community Schools said in a letter after her death. “Her kindness radiated throughout the school; helping students feel seen and valued. This loss will be felt deeply throughout our district.”
Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis said a grand jury will convene in a matter of weeks to investigate the shooting, as required by state law.
