Showers and unseasonably cool air for Monday
Triple-digit heat will be a thing of the past to start the workweek. At midnight, Lincoln Airport recorded a temperature of 75°. This will likely go on the books as the official high temperature for the day. Temperatures hold steady in the 60s for most of Monday.
The reason for the cooler weather all comes down to rain overspreading the area. Widespread rain is likely across southeast Nebraska on Monday morning.
Showers will remain possible through the afternoon. However, the rain will likely begin to taper off as the day progresses.
We expect the heaviest rain to fall south of I-80, and likely south of Lincoln. This is also where the greatest rain totals are likely to occur. At the end of the day, the cut-off between who sees high rain totals and not-so-high rain totals will be sharp.
Afternoon highs will likely be stuck in the middle and upper-60s for many, and we expect clouds to remain all day. Locations that turn out to be a bit drier may end up in the lower-70s during the afternoon.
Temperatures rebound to the 80s on Tuesday. For the time being, we expect 80s for high temperatures to remain through the weekend, providing some relief from the heat.
