Six motorcycles stolen, $200,000 in damage caused during break-in near Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early Sunday morning theft at Rod’s Power Sports.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said authorities were called to the store near Highway 77 and Saltillo Road around 5 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they found that the showroom window was shattered and that six Honda motorcycles — worth around $48,000 — were missing.

The store owner, Rod Yanagida, said it’s been two stressful days since the robbery happened.

“It’s a cost of doing business,” he said. “An unfortunate cost of doing business.

During the investigation, deputies learned that a vehicle had backed into the window.  The window had $200,000 in damage.

Once inside, (they) did a quiet of bit of damage to the building, destroyed two motorcycles and scratched three or four ATVs,” Yanagida said.

The damage to those motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles was about $12,000, according to Houchin.

Two people then got out and loaded the motorcycles into a U-Haul truck, according to video shared by Rod’s Power Sports on Facebook.

Houchin thinks this burglary is related to one in St. Joseph, Missouri.

“It certainly wasn’t their first time doing it,” Houchin said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 402-441-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
