Small daytime rain chances; A better shot overnight

UPDATE – 11:41 a.m. Tuesday:

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded portions of southwest Nebraska to a Level 2/5 risk for severe weather for Tuesday night. In these areas, there is a slightly higher damaging straight-line wind threat.

Severe Weather Outlook

Strong to severe storms are most likely in the yellow-shaded area close to or shortly after midnight. These storms will spread east in the overnight hours and early Wednesday morning. However, the severe weather risk is lower in central and eastern Nebraska.

Aside from the severe weather risk upgrade, the forecast from the original story remains unchanged.

ORIGINAL STORY:

An unsettled weather pattern persists for the time being. Showers and storms are found in central and western Nebraska as early as Tuesday morning. These pockets of moisture will move east through the rest of the day. Isolated areas of storms will be possible.

The highest chance to come across these storms will be north of I-80. Lincoln is close enough to see a few of these. However, there will likely be some areas that miss out on rain, and we do not expect significant accumulation out of these.

Stormcast Tuesday Afternoon

Skies will be mostly cloudy for much of our Tuesday. This will keep temperatures below normal, with highs in the mid-80s in Lincoln. It’ll be plenty muggy though, with afternoon heat indices reaching the low to mid-90s.

Tuesday Forecast

Skies may become partly cloudy for some time on Tuesday evening, but clouds do return overnight and into Wednesday morning. More storms will move into the area as well. Our next best opportunity to see storms will be on Tuesday night.

Stormcast Tuesday Night

Damaging winds and quarter-size hail are possible with a few of the overnight storms. There is a Level 1/5 risk for severe weather for much of the state through Tuesday night. This means that while most storms probably won’t be severe, a few might flare up into something stronger.

Severe Weather Outlook

We’re not necessarily done with rain chances after Tuesday night. The pattern remains unsettled, resulting in many more opportunities for rain on the 10-Day Outlook.
