Small storm chances for Memorial Day and beyond
If you live closer to central Nebraska, you might’ve dodged scattered showers on Sunday morning and into the early afternoon. Storms have redeveloped as of late Sunday afternoon.
A few of these storms on Sunday evening may flare up into something borderline severe, capable of 60 mph winds and quarter-sized hail. A brief landspout tornado also cannot be ruled out.
These storms will quickly weaken as the evening progresses, but scattered storms may linger into the overnight hours and early Monday morning. The better chance to come across these in Lincoln will be overnight Sunday and Monday morning.
While a spotty shotty shower or two can’t be ruled out early on Memorial Day, rain should taper off by late morning. We’ll otherwise see a mixture of sun and clouds. While a round of isolated storms cannot totally be ruled out on Monday afternoon, the overall chances are fairly low in southeast Nebraska. Chances are higher in northern and western parts of the state.
While there are a couple of rain chances, you’ll likely be able to find plenty of dry time outside if you have plans to grill out or head to the pool. And for some, the entire day stays dry.
It’ll be warm for the unofficial start of summer as well, with temperatures rising into the 80s during the afternoon.
We’ll likely top out in the mid to upper-80s across southeast Nebraska. We’re forecasting a high near 88° in Lincoln on Memorial Day.
As we head into next week, we have daily chances for storms. But as has been the case in recent weeks, they will be small chances. You likely won’t see rain every day, but each day features an opportunity to see it. Perhaps you’ll get some moisture in your backyard – fingers crossed!
