Smoke billows from burning semi on I-80 near Greenwood

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A semitrailer went up in flames Friday on Interstate 80 in eastern Nebraska.

It happened shortly after 6 p.m. in the westbound lanes at the Greenwood interchange.

A Channel 8 employee captured video of the fire, and it was also caught on Nebraska Department of Transportation cameras.

The burning semi was pulled over onto the shoulder, and thick black smoke rose into the air.

It’s not clear what started the fire or whether anyone was injured.

But the truck appeared to be destroyed.

NDOT said the westbound lanes were closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles.

Shortly before 11 p.m., NDOT said the crash was cleaned up and all lanes were back open.
