Snow chances increasing Wednesday night
Nebraska was nestled in between storm systems on Wednesday morning. While Tuesday’s rain/snow has since departed, more precipitation is on the way. For most of the day on Wednesday, southeast Nebraska appears dry. It will be cloudy and breezy, with an afternoon high in the low-30s.
However, snow chances will increase on Wednesday night. Snow will arrive in southwest Nebraska around lunchtime, and in south-central Nebraska closer to the mid and late afternoon. A few snow showers can’t be ruled out in Lincoln by the evening commute, but overall odds ramp up through the evening.
Snow chances will be at their highest in Lincoln on Wednesday night and early Thursday. Snow will exit the area on Thursday morning. In fact, we may see mostly sunny skies by the end of Thursday.
The cutoff between who sees a lot of snow and a little bit of snow will likely be sharp. The highest snow totals will be in southern Nebraska. We’re keeping Lincoln in the 2″-4″ range for now, but totals should be a bit higher to the south and significantly lower to the north. Unfortunately, Lincoln will likely be somewhat close to the cutoff zone.
The weather will quiet down as we head into the weekend. Temperatures will also gradually warm. Highs may be stuck in the upper-30s on Friday, but by the weekend, we should see temperatures return to the 40s and 50s.
