Snow ending by Wednesday afternoon; very cold Thursday morning

Parts of southern and southeast Nebraska (including Lincoln and Omaha) are under a Winter Storm Warning through 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.

This is where the heaviest snow is expected through the storm, impacting especially the morning and afternoon commutes with travel expected to be difficult. Visibility may be reduced with some blowing and drifting snow as this is a very fluffy, dry type of snow.

Surrounding areas (in purple) are under a Winter Weather Advisory through 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Snow is expected with travel potentially becoming difficult; hazardous conditions could impact both the morning and afternoon commutes Wednesday.

Snow will continue for much of the state Wednesday morning, clearing from west to east by the afternoon. Snow will exit eastern Nebraska last, tapering off through the afternoon hours.

Additional snow may add up to 1-3″ for most of eastern Nebraska beyond 7 a.m. this morning.

With the nature of this fluffy snow, there could be areas of blowing and drifting snow as north winds are around 10-25 mph throughout the day today.

And it’s about to get even colder. Wind chills throughout the day will be below zero.

But by Thursday morning with snow on the ground, morning low temperatures will bottom out around 5-10 below zero. Wind chills for most of the state will be very cold and could be as low as -25.

Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday night through 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

More sunshine returns on Thursday. Then with temperatures finally warming above freezing on Friday, a spotty mix of rain/snow will be possible.
