Snow west, storms east, and dry in between

Tuesday will be very active across the Northern Plains, with some areas experiencing blizzard conditions and others seeing severe weather. Southeast Nebraska will be caught in between all of the active weather, where sunshine is expected for most of Tuesday.

There will also be a wide variation in high temperatures. As a warm front lifts through the area, some could reach the 80s. Meanwhile, a cold front will be arriving from the west, bringing a cooling influence along with it.

For that reason, the high-temperature forecast will be incredibly tricky. 70s appear to be a good bet in Lincoln, but it will be warmer to the southeast and cooler to the northwest.

Tuesday Forecast

While southeast Nebraska sees plenty of sunshine, northern parts of the state start off with cloud cover. Spotty showers can’t be ruled out in northeast Nebraska during the morning, with freezing drizzle and/or a light mix in north-central Nebraska.

Snow will be ongoing in western Nebraska. Eventually, that activity will start to taper off in intensity by late Wednesday afternoon and into Wednesday night.

Stormcast Tuesday

SNOW WEST AND STORMS EAST

Various winter weather alerts are in place for western Nebraska, including Blizzard Warnings. The most accumulating snow will fall in the northwesternmost parts of the state.

Light snow totals are expected in the Winter Weather Advisory area, and minor ice accumulations will also be possible.

Winter Weather Alerts

While winter weather is likely to the west, severe weather will be likely to the east. As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, the Storm Prediction Center still has a few counties in far southeast Nebraska included in Level 1/5 and Level 2/5 risks for severe weather.

Severe Weather Outlook

Most storms should end up to our east, but there’s a chance they could develop in Nebraska very close to the Missouri River. Even if that happens, the storms will quickly race off toward the east. Lincoln will more than likely stay dry.
