Snow west with storms east on Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve will bring a little bit of everything. Snow is likely to the west with thunderstorms to the east. Snow chances across the state increase through Wednesday.
Starting early Sunday morning snow will start to the west, with showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half of the state.
The eastern half of the state will see mainly rain Sunday. Much of western and central Nebraska will see snow ranging from a trace to over 4″. The best chance for widespread snowfall will be Monday through Tuesday night.
Rain and possible thunderstorms are likely throughout the day on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day will bring a chance for snow across Nebraska. The northeastern half of the state has the best chance to see the most inches. Southeast Nebraska could see anywhere form 1-3″. Travel plans across the state might be impacted due to snow and slick roads.

While there is a chance for snow, these totals are not set in stone. Depending on how Sunday’s thunderstorm system plays out, these number may change. What we do know is some central and northeast counties are expected to see higher amounts of snow compared to surrounding areas.
As chances for snowfall increase heading into the start of the new week. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for parts of western Nebraska until 6:00pm on Sunday. A Winter Storm Watch is in place for parts of central and eastern Nebraska until 6:00am on Wednesday.
Along with Sunday’s showers and storms, we will see wind gusts ranging from 25-35 mph in the afternoon.
